About Us

Equipped with both classroom and real-world professional experience, and a touch of random factoids, the Good Comma Classroom team desires to partner with schools, churches, and companies. We promise to embolden and empower constituencies for greater effectiveness, renewed understanding, and deeper confidence in the marketplace of ideas, in the hustle and bustle of commerce, and in their own homes.

Meet Our Team

Michael T. Hamilton

Owner, Travel Studies Lead & Instructor

Favorite GCC trip thus far: I didn't think any Good Comma Classroom trip could unseat Boston as my favorite destination for weaving together America's historical, literary, and theological heritage, from the Pilgrims to the founders to our literary masters to present-day notables. But our 10-day blitz through England and Scotland proved me wrong. The castles, cathedrals, and common-law underpinnings of Western democracy have locked part of my soul in the Tower of London. I must return to visit it there as often as I can.

Michael T. Hamilton launched the first Good Comma company in 2013, going full-time with Good Comma in 2014. He formerly served as the English department chair and taught AP U.S. Government & Politics at Dayton Christian High School in Ohio and taught IB English at Mystic Valley Regional Charter School just north of Boston, Massachusetts. Hamilton has been published in The Wall Street Journal, National Review, World Magazine, Townhall.com, and many other online and print publications. For most of 2016 and 2017, he edited a policy newspaper read by lawmakers in 50 states and in the District of Columbia. He has also provided legislative testimony in two states.

Hamilton is a founding board member of Forge Leadership Network. Forge trains, mentors, and connects midwestern students who are considering public service of any kind. He graduated from Hillsdale College in 2008 with a B.A. in English.

Hamilton provides leadership to the Good Comma team and the company's strategic growth while also serving as Lead Editor for the other Good Comma company, Good Comma Editing

Jennifer Reno

Education Director, Travel Studies Lead, Chief Financial Officer

Favorite trip location thus far: Washington, DC. I've spent my entire life exploring the city. From a young girl who visited a handful of times, to an adult who makes a pilgrimage several times a year, I always find a new piece of the city to fall in love with, be challenged by, and pass the time in grateful remembrance.

Jennifer Reno graduated from Cedarville University, with a B.A. in Communications and obtained a M.A. Ed. from Wright State University with an emphasis in Educational Leadership. She's taught in traditional classrooms in elementary through high school levels in discipline areas including Advanced Placement Government, Current Social Problems, American Government, Speech, and World History as well as serving as a Social Studies Department Chair. Jennifer possesses extensive experience in high school administration and management, curriculum development and implementation, and instructional supervision and evaluation. She's created individualized learning plans for both traditional and non-traditional classroom environments.

She holds an ACSI principal certificate as well as a non-tax teaching certificate with the state of Ohio. Jennifer and her passion for excellence in education has led her to Mongolia and the Middle East, working with elementary and secondary school teachers through nonvocational and pedagogical training workshops.

Greg Kurtz

Instructor, Travel Studies Lead & Writing Coach

Favorite trip location thus far: Boston, MA. Every time I visit Boston, I find my way to two locations: the deck of the USS Constitution and the lawn of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s home. To get my boots on the deck of Old Ironsides—America’s longest continuously commissioned war ship—or to walk in the domestic footprints of “America’s poet” reminds me that I stand on the shoulders of giants.

Graduating from Cedarville College with a B.A. in English in 1990, Greg Kurtz expanded his training in writing instruction at Ohio Writing Project (Miami University).  In 1991, he began a 28-year teaching career at Dayton Christian High School, honing his skill by teaching Freshmen Composition, Public Speaking, British, American, and World Literature, as well as Advanced Placement English Language and Composition. Greg chaired the English Department and developed curriculum for students and training for faculty.

He holds a non-tax certificate from the state of Ohio and has presented seminars on journaling, teaching methods, and writing non-fiction, personal narrative at several conferences and workshops.

As a creator of lists, student of history, and former event planner, Carly manages the logistics for Good Comma Classroom’s travel studies. Her faith-driven values and interest in politics took her to Washington, DC, where she played several roles managing political media and policy events, many of which highlighted young organizers making a difference. She returned to Dayton in an effort to reconnect with her hometown, knowing that the development of the next generation of leaders begins right here.

Whether her day in the office involves managing vendor relationships, communicating with families, or sharing her passion for America’s founding on the steps of an important historical site, Carly strives to equip future leaders with knowledge and conviction.

Jessica Niemi

Travel Studies Lead & Writing Coach

Favorite GCC trip location thus far: Charleston, SC. This was the first trip that I staffed as a member of the Good Comma team. It was a location that was not new to me as I had traveled there with my family a few years prior. I was amazed at the number of new things I learned and new places I discovered as a part of the team.

Jessica Niemi graduated from Cedarville University with a B.A. in Professional Writing and Information Design. She supports Good Comma Classroom's marketing and design efforts by creating quality content throughout the sales and trip execution process. Jessica constantly displays creativity as she manages our social media and email campaigns. She brings her expertise to content creation and design, making the GCC Trips experience come alive. On the trips, she leads with an inquisitive, knowledgeable, and adventurous spirit. From her desk, she is a gifted editor and writing coach, offering gracious but honest feedback to help clients state the most important things clearly.

Jessica started working for Good Comma in 2020 as an intern heading into her final year of college. She officially joined the team a few days after graduation.
